In 2003, with the help and donations of a sponsor, Mr. Christopher Crabtree, the Children in Need Foundation opened the Saint Christopher Holiday Center in Curtea de Argeș. The center supports children who have special needs or come from families without financial resources.
In 2004 , Archbishop Hope inaugurated the “Saint Andrew” Hospice in Piteşti. Built on the ruins of a school for the hearing impaired, the Center still provides care for children suffering from hydrocephalus and spina bifida, or other genetic and neurological diseases.
A new Children's Development and Recovery Center "Sfântul Nicolae" was opened in Bucharest in 2006. The center provides services to children with general developmental delays, disabilities, neurological and motor syndromes, language and speech development disorders, intellectual disabilities, genetic syndromes, orthopedic and muscular disabilities.
In 2008, CID obtained recognition from the Romanian Government as a public utility foundation – thus fulfilling a minimum set of conditions and additional transparency obligations. Thus, the Foundation is distinguished by the range of interests it promotes and the services it provides for the community.
In 2012, the CID Foundation was accredited as a provider of professional training for personnel in the education system, this being one of the important results obtained as a result of the implementation of the POSDRU 91/S/2.2/61945 project "Development of education and assistance infrastructure for children at high risk of school dropout and early school leaving ", implemented between August 2010 and January 2013.
Between 1999 and 2022, the SPECIALIZED CENTER FOR CHILDREN WITH PROFESSIONAL DISABILITIES “SF. MARGARETA” operated , established in 1999 with the aim of ensuring protection, upbringing and personalized care, adapted to the diagnosis and specific needs of children with profound disabilities who are separated from their parents as a result of the establishment, based on legal provisions, of the placement measure.
During the placement period, the center provides, in a secure environment complemented by affective and emotional support, hosting, socio-medical assistance, rehabilitation, and socio-family and school integration.
The beneficiaries are 20 children with serious neurological diseases associated with other diagnoses, aged 0-14 years.
Activities provided to beneficiaries :
specialized personal care, adapted to the specific needs of children with profound disabilities (ensures daily personal hygiene, ensures daily feeding in compliance with the menus established by the specialist, offering children a diet appropriate to their age and diagnosis),
permanent supervision and accompaniment by the reference person,
specialized medical care appropriate to the specific needs of each child: periodic medical evaluations, ensuring treatment, ensuring the immunization schedule, treating intercurrent conditions, ensuring children's access to other medical services when needed: dental, ENT, ophthalmology, surgical interventions, etc.,
ensuring hot food preparation and meal service (2 snacks and 3 main meals per day),
social assistance: taking the necessary steps to obtain the rights of children with serious disabilities according to legal provisions, interventions to resume and facilitate the maintenance of the child's connection with the family (parents, siblings, other relatives), friends, other people to whom they show attachment and affection, counseling and support for the child's parents/legal representative, promoting family reintegration,
rehabilitation activities according to the specific needs of each child: physiotherapy and massage, sensory stimulation, psycho-motor and manual skills therapy, organization and training of personal autonomy (training of self-service skills), reorganization of behaviors and perceptual-motor restructuring,
recreational and social activities,
Specialized staff : center coordinator, social worker, 3 doctors, 9 nurses, 7 nurses, 2 social parents, 2 physiotherapists, psychologist.
